First Light: Jesus and the Kingdom
Koininia Class in the Library with leadership shared among the participants. First Light is a DVD based study of the historical Jesus and the Kingdom of God with two of the world's leading Jesus scholars (Borg and Crossan) on location throughout the Galilee and Jerusalem. It is a study of questions: Why did Jesus happen when he happened? Why were the titles of Caesar Augustus taken from a Roman emperor on the Palatine hill and given to a Jewish peasant on the Palestine plain? What were the priorities of Jesus' proclamation of the Kingdom? And many more questions to ponder and discuss!
Who Is This Man?
Families of Faith Lenten Study taught by Sara Stahler in the Office, began Feb 26 (you are not too late to join) Through a DVD and discussion we will see how Jesus made an inescapable influence on our world.! Jesus is history’s most familiar figure. His impact on the world is immense and non-accidental. From the Dark Ages to Post-Modernity he is the man who won’t go away. And yet …He did not brashly defend his movement in the spirit of a rising political or military leader. He did not lay out a case that history would judge superior in all future books. He did not start by telling his disciples, Who Is This Man? illustrates how Jesus’ influence has swept over history, bringing his inspiration to the evolution of art, science, government, medicine, and education. And how his vision for us to lead lives of dignity, compassion, forgiveness, and hope continues to inspire and challenge humanity today
Taught by Mike Brady at the “bottom of the ramp”. Lively discussion ensues as this group will spend some time exploring the tenets of Presbyterianism, comparing our denomination to other mainline American religions/faiths.
