This group was organized in 2008 with approximately 6 interested women who enjoyed reading good literature. We have grown to a possible number of 13 if all were in attendance. Everyone is welcome, men, women, teenagers, and people not associated with First UPC. Meetings are held on the 3rd Monday of the months from September through May. The members usually open their homes to the book club , but we have met in the church during a winter month.
The group of readers make the selections on a monthly basis. Sometimes the members make selections for two months at a time to enable the readers who want to read ahead to do so.. Genres we have selected from are fiction, non-fiction, biographies and classics. Some have a religious theme but not necessarily all selections. Some have been best sellers, some little gems never heard of before.
We have also had guest speakers to help us understand some of the books or listen to their strength and skill in a type of literature. We hope to continue this during the coming years.
Susie Barlow was our first leader and continues to be an active member. Judy Wical and Marty Marine share the leadership and will be glad to answer any questions you might have about joining. We have no dues and if you miss a meeting you will not be fined. Spirited discussions are usually a part of the meeting and everyone gets to be a part of it. Come and join us.
